Every dispute involves a human relationship.
To embrace or isolate that human element is a fundamental question for mediators.
This reflective retreat introduces a humanistic mediation approach to mediation and peace work, drawn from Jacqueline Morineau’ s ‘La Médiation Humaniste’.
It explores the power of the mediator’s own humanity and the role it plays in navigating that liminal space between necessary endings and fresh beginnings.
Humanising the process therefor means humanising the mediator.
It includes concepts of:
- Cleaning your mediation mirror
- Being in touch with our own feelings
- Mediating with soft eyes
- Conflict as a fluid rather than a static event
- Mediation as a transitional process

This paper is dedicated to Jacqueline Morineau, French mediator and archaeologist, who died on 15 July 2023 aged 89 years.
Workshop Fees & Venue
The Retreat fee is $1,400.00 plus GST $140.00 – total $1,540.00
The workshop runs from 12.30pm Friday 9 May until 4 pm Sunday 11 May 2025. It will include a light welcome lunch and and an evening meal on Friday and long table lunches on Saturday and Sunday.
Accommodation options are available in the Adelaide hills and in Adelaide city a 20 minute drive to the venue.
The setting is a 2 acre rural property at Mt George in the Adelaide Hills, South Australia. See map below.
The retreat will be facilitated by Margaret Ross and Greg Rooney who have each practiced as mediators for more than 33 years.
